West Cornwall Golf Club - Seniors Wet January 

The Seniors at West Cornwall managed to complete two of their scheduled three Competitions in January with the popular three clubs and a putter event falling victim to the wet weather.

On 7 January the New Year Greensomes Competition saw lots of low scores as early rain impacted on early starters and wind developed for those at back in the field. Trophy winners with just 34 points were Alistair Paterson and Phil Phaby. Other prize winners all on 33 points and separated on count back were: -

2nd place - Mike W Richards & John Hosking 
3rd place - Brian Joy & David Perry 
4th place - Ray Pearce & David Guswell 

Nearest the 15th Pin was Chris Gray at 4.22 metres.


Scoring was also difficult for some on 28 January when the Seniors played a 4 Ball Betterball Competition with only four clubs and a putter due to a trolley ban brought about by course conditions. Nevertheless, the winning scores matched those of 2015. Prize winners were: -

1st place - 40 points - Dennis Nicholls & Simon Pengelly 
2nd place - 40 points (after c/b) - David Winks & Mike Jose 
3rd place - 39 points - Jeff Green & Frank Curnow 
4th place - 38 points (after c/b) - Phil Phaby & Phil Davey 

Nearest the 15th Pin was Phil Thomas at 5.5 metres.


 

It was a lovely cold day on Tuesday, 19 January for the Ladies of West Cornwall when they played their first qualifying competition for 2016, which was a stableford. 

In the silver division first place went to Gill Embley, with an excellent score of 38 points, who was followed by Ros Fox, with 36 points in second place, and Anne Richards, with 31 points in third place. Lady Captain Edwina Thomas came first in the bronze division with 30 points, and Anne Evans with 28 points in second place, on a countback from Jackie Hill in third place. 


Ladies Lunch

The West Cornwall Ladies held their annual luncheon on Friday, 22 January. After a superb lunch created by our chef, Andy Smith, the winners of the various cups played during 2015 were presented with their silverware. 

Our thanks also to the Club staff who contributed to a great day.
