Club Championship 2016
Saturday saw 43 players take part in the 36-hole medal to determine the Club Champion at West Cornwall Golf Club and a further 43 players take part in the 18-hole support competition.
With defending champion Harry Hall away, Matt Richards was favourite for the title and opened up with an impressive 68. Rod Jenkin also had a good morning round, shooting a level par 69, but it was another West Cornwall young gun, Bradley Barnes who led after an excellent 3 under par 66.
Meanwhile in the nett competition Bradley (nett 63) and Rod (net 64) held the top two spots, but there were other good scores with Bradley's younger brother, Tristan managing 66, while Neil Hodding and Lee Bushby both scored 67.
The morning scores for those playing 36-holes were included in the support competition. Unfortunately, none of those only playing 18-holes managed to feature in the overall prizes, but the top score of them was a nett 69 from seasoned campaigner Brian Hosken.
In the afternoon, Richards was unable to repeat his performance falling away with 78 and Jenkin recorded a 76. Meanwhile, Alex Glasson who managed 71 in the morning followed up with a 72 in the afternoon but this proved not to be enough to overhaul Barnes who managed a second fine round, scoring a level par 69 to finish 3 under par for the 36 holes.
The nett title also went to Barnes with a comfortable 6 shot victory. However it was Luke Stevens who came second managing a nett 67 to go with his morning 68 for a total of 135, just beating Jenkin on count back with Tristan Barnes 4th on 137.

How do you hit a draw?
We get asked this a lot, probably because so many golfers struggle with a distance-robbing slice. A soft draw is a great shot to have at your disposal as it gives you a bit more distance. However, there’s a big difference between a soft draw and a hook – so here are a few tips for you.
Try altering your set-up by aiming your feet and body right of your target line, whilst keeping your clubface aimed at the target. We want you to swing as normal; closing your body towards the target and taking your normal swing will mean your path is altered more naturally. Do this correctly and you should swing along your body line and right of target, which creates the desired draw shape.
Don’t forget to come and see us if you want any help with your swing, or if you’re looking to add a new shot to your armoury. Click here to request a lesson.
