Greetings golfers,
Festival Of Golf Cup
Six days of golf competitions at West Cornwall Golf Club started on Monday with a 3-person team event. The event was sponsored by Antony Richards Property Services and as it turned out it was the sponsor himself who won the event, partnering Ian Alford and Ross Hutchings and scoring 85 points. This score beat Lady Captain Debbie Sedgeman, Gill Cattran and Chris Matthews on count back with third place going to Trevor Newborn, Bob Darnell and Dennis Nicholls on 83. Two further ladies teams finished 4th and 5th with Alison Gessey, Mandy Dennison and Christine Marenah beating Donna Gibson, Marjorie Parnell and Mags Hosking on count back with both teams scoring 82.
Tuesday Mixed Event
Tuesday was the mixed event sponsored by Philps Pasties and it was one of the Club professionals, Matt Curnoe, partnering Sheryl Richardson, who won the day with 44 points.
The husband and wife pairing of Neil and Jo Hodding came second with 43 points, beating Jenkin and Dennis Nicholls on count back.
There were a number of scores of 40 points including the Lady Captain Debbie Sedgeman with her husband Phil, Mandy Dennison and Barrie Higgins, Gill Cattran and Steve Morris, and Anne Evans with her husband and Club President Ken.
Better Ball Stableford
Wednesday was a better ball event sponsored by the Watermill and again saw some excellent scoring. Andy Boon and Andrew Hitchens managed 46 points to win on count back from Jordan Musitano and Tom Newman, with Richard Robinson and David Melbourne managing 45 points for 3rd place. Visitors from Cape Cornwall, Roger Nicholas and Terry Dodd managed 4th with 44, just edging out David Pryce and Peter Hale on count back.
4 Man Team
The event on Friday, sponsored by Citrus Print Solutions was a 4-person team. With all 4 scores having to count on the last hole, there was a bit of added pressure and some friendly banter in the bar afterwards!
The top score was an excellent 94 points from Tom Ruhrmund, brothers Jamie & Joel Cameron and James Franklin. In second place with 92 from Falmouth were Paul Huckle, Steven Briers, Terry Philp and Dave Holland. One point further back were Peter Ramsey, Simon Foster, Willie Roberts and Dave Pryce, while Jon Coleman, Luke Stevens, Andrew Richards and Phil Sedgeman managed 89 for 4th place.
Saturday Scramble
The final day was the ever popular Saturday Scramble sponsored by County Confectionary. The winning score was an incredible 50.3 from juniors Hannah Body, Emily Jenkin, and brothers Bradley & Tristan Barnes. In second place, 3 shots further back on 53.3 were Nigel Pidwell, John Barnes, Andrew Richards and Kira Barnes, with Dean Tulley, Mark Thomas, Chris Knowles and Andy Pengelly managing 53.8. 4th place went to Rob Broadbridge, Giles Piper, Alex Glasson and Mark Hutchings with 54.5, whilst 5th on count back with 55 were Neil Hodding, John White, Steve Murphy and Kevin Nankervis.
The week was a great success with plenty of positive comments about the course and the food and the presentation took place on Saturday evening with well over 100 attendees including the sponsors who again have shown great support to the Club.

Junior Report from Junior Organiser Anthony Haddy
Following a 3-2 win over St Austell juniors and a 5-0 victory over a weakened Falmouth junior side at Mullion golf course yesterday evening, our West Cornwall junior squad are through to the final of the Brian Gripe (scratch) league, which will be played at Carlyon Bay on the 15th August.
Similarly, following a run of good results, we are hopeful of qualifying for the finals of the Bolitho (handicap) league, which will also be held at Carlyon Bay on the 21st August. We have matches left against Mullion and Falmouth to negotiate, but are hoping for favourable results. The Junior section appreciate the help and support members offer throughout the year and in particular wish to say a huge thank to you to long-suffering parents, grandparents and extended family members for their support and taxi service!
Thanks, Tony
