Hello golfers,
Welcome to this week's newsletter. This week's mail brings you an in depth look at the brand new 917 drivers, the latest winter league results as well as a stunning week of performances from our knockout teams.
New 917 Titleist Drivers
I did my first fitting with these fantastic new drivers from Titleist and was incredibly impressed with the increased flexibility for fitting over the 915 models and the potential increases in performance they offer to the golfers who benefit from this increase in adjustability.
The basic difference between a 917 and the old 915 models is:
An improvement in head shape on the D2 model that reduces spin rates by approx 300 rpm, meaning players that would previously would have been fitted into the smaller, lower spinning D3 model can now get optimal performance from the friendlier D2 model.
There is a slight change in the face construction that give a small increase in performance on off centre hits.
The biggest difference is the ability to move the weight bias in the club (via a removable weight) to make the club either more draw or fade biased. This can also be used to adjust the swing weight of the club (As far as I know this has not been possible with any other brand before during a fitting).
The old 915 is still a fantastic driver and will perform equally as well the new 917's for some golfers, but where for some golfers this performance could have been beaten by other brands who required the increased adjust-ability, Titleist have changed this and now offer a driver for pretty much everybody.
First fitting with David Shilson
As you can see from the Trackman data report, David had been using a PING G5 driver (approx 12 years old) which the modern 915 easily beat in distance and accuracy.
The 915 offered similar ball speeds to his old PING G5 but the lowered Spin rates and improved launch angle gave him an extra 12 yards average carry. David's swing characteristics meant that being able to move the weight to a draw bias in the new 917 (with the same shaft and hosel setting as in the 915) we saw an increase of just over 2 mph ball speed, further lowering of Spin Rate (due to the new shape) and a further 13 yards over the 915 model.
A perfect example of how this new adjustability can help certain players.
So from this fitting, with his new 917 David has increased his average drive by a massive 14 yards carry and 29 yards in total distance. An excellent result.

The final junior county competition of the year saw a field of 70 take part in the CGU junior Maxam at the Point at Polzeath on Wednesday, 26 October.
The West Cornwall team of
Bradley Barnes, Finn Rule, Noah Badcock, Jordan Musitano, Cameron Richards and
Emily Jenkin claimed second place on a very enjoyable day, played in a great atmosphere. The pairing of Noah and Jordan also took overall second place with 77 nett in their final appearance as juniors - well done lads.
We took advantage of the occasion to field some of our next generation players, with
Joseph Haddy and
Kira Barnes returning a nett 72.5 and both pairings of
Katie Jenkin and

Sam Foster and
Jonty Jenkin returning nett 72's - most of these players had never played the course before, so well done to all.
The prize giving also included the presentation of the 2016 Order of Merit, with overall winner
Bradley Barnes taking the shield with
Finn Rule as runner-up. Finn also secured the top spot in the Under 16 scratch and second overall in the Under 16 handicap categories.
Recent Club competitions have seen
