Sport Remembers 

As the Nations custodians of Remembrance, The British Legion has called upon sport throughout the UK to honour those who fell in the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago. In addition to those who we lost at The Somme, the PGA are endeavouring to identify all Golf Professionals and assistants that were lost in the Great War 1914 - 1918 and made the ultimate sacrifice for King and Country. 

The PGAs research has discovered that Ernest Albert Firstbrook joined the club as golf professional here at West Cornwall in July 1911 prior to joining the Royal Fusiliers. He enlisted in January 1915 as a Bandsman and stretcher bearer with the Royal Fusiliers 24th Battalion (2nd sportsmans). 

Ernest Albert Firstbrook was killed on 13th November 1916 during the battle of the Somme and is commemorated at Redan Bridge Cemetery in Beaumont-Hamel France. The club remembers him and all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. 

A commemorative poppy flag has been given to us from the PGA, which is being flown on the 15th hole.

On the 1st November 18 pairs of ladies played a Greensomes over 15 holes 

1st - V. Paul and V. Rowe - 34pts (they were also last year's winners) 
2nd - E. Thomas and S. Barlow - 32pts c/b 
3rd - R. Perkin and G. Prodger - 32pts 
4th - G. Cattran and D. Sedgeman - 31pts


Cornwall Bowl Team 

Commiserations to our Cornish Bowl team who lost against Bowood on Sunday, 6 November at Carlyon Bay. We are still in 3 of the County Knockout competitions though so the very best of luck to our teams in the next matches. 

The next match will be the 2nd round of the Frank Wills on the 20th November against Radnor at Newquay Golf Club, first match tee off at 10am.
