Learmonth Bowl – Sunday, 6 August 2017 West Cornwall Golf Club hosted the Learmonth Bowl, a 36-hole medal in memory of previous Club professional JW Learmonth who served the Club from 1910-1946. The competition was first played in 1949. 51 players took part on the day coming from all over the country but it was early starter and home player, Jordan Musitano who lead with a nett 66 in the morning. Just one shot further back were Mark Thomas and John Jones, both from Sidmouth Golf Club, whilst Ollie Naylor shot 68 and Rod Handyside and Ben Easterling both managed 69. Another ‘away’ player, Lucas Wood from Rotherham lead 5 players who shot 70. In the afternoon, Musitano was unable to convert, dropping a number of shots on his last 7 holes to finish with 74 and a 140 total. Handyside managed 71 to also score a total of 140 and move ahead of Musitano. Local Matt Dove had the best afternoon round, matching the best round of the day with 66 gave him a total of 139 but it was Sidmouth’s Thomas coming in with 70 to finish on 137 and win the Learmonth Bowl by 2 shots. The scratch event that runs alongside the main event was won by Guy Norris of Trevose who shot 73 and 69 to total 142, beating Sidmouth’s Neil Holland by 3 shots (145, 72 and 73).
