Debbie Sedgeman - Millenium Trophy Winner 2017
Past Lady Captains of clubs in Cornwall compete each year in a knockout matchplay competition for the Millenium Trophy. Each round is played on a neutral course and the final played at the home course of the Captain of the Past Captain’s Society for that year, and on this occasion the final was arranged for The Point of Polzeath. To Debbie’s disadvantage, the other finalist, Jackie Smeeth was also Member at The Point but Debbie was not to be deterred and ran out 2&1 winner, ably assisted by Gill Cattran, who caddied for her. In a thrilling match the score was all level after 14 holes and difficult to see a winner! But then Debbie won the 15th hole to go 1up with 3 holes to play. Playing the 16th, a par 3, both players hit the green with their tee shots but Debbie was closest to the flag and holed out for a ‘Birdie 2' to go 2up with just 2 holes to play. The 17th hole was halved declaring Debbie the winner by 2 holes with only the 18th left to play. Out of 20 entries, to reach the final Debbie had defeated players from China Fleet at St.Austell, Whitsand Bay at Lanhydrock and Falmouth at Truro.
