Club Championships - Colonel & Bolitho Cups

A tough wind greeted the players ensuring they were going to have a challenging 36 holes at West Cornwall for the annual Club Championship, with the nett winner receiving the Colonel's Cup and the scratch winner being awarded the Bolitho Cup.

The morning scores reflected the conditions with only 1 player scoring under their handicap. Seamus Stevens came in with a nett 68 with playing partner Rod Jenkin scoring a nett 70, level with Matt Curnoe, Rob Tempest and Jon Coleman. The scratch competition was also tight affair with Matt Richards, Rob Tempest and Jon Coleman all shooting 72 with Seamus Stevens and Matt Curnoe close behind on 73.

The afternoon scoring was similar to the morning. Stevens couldn't maintain his morning form shooting a nett 73 and Jenkin also slipped away. Curnoe however managed a nett 71 as did Tempest, both equalling Stevens total of 141 but with a better back 18. It was Tempest though with a better back 9 who pipped Curnoe for the Colonel's Cup and title of Club Champion.

In the scratch, again Tempest, with his afternoon 73, lead the way and waited to see if the challengers, Richards and Coleman could match or better him. Richards could only manage 74 and when Coleman came in with 73, the rules requiring a 4-hole play-off were invoked. Tempest took the initiative with a birdie on the 2nd extra hole and then a par on the 3rd extra hole leaving Coleman 2 behind. A valiant effort at a 2 on the par 4 18th just missed and Tempest carded a steady par to win both the scratch and nett events.

Adult's "Learn To Play Golf Days"

Monday the 4th of August sees the next session taking place, the group starts at 9.30am and runs through to 2.30pm. These days are all about having fun whilst learning some of the essential skills needed to get playing golf and enjoying yourselves outside in the Summer.

The previous session was well attended with the maximum number of 8 golfers booked in within a week of the date being published. Therefore if you know of anyone who has always said they should start to play golf or someone who wants to look at the basic fundamentals of the game again, this could be the perfect session?
