Knockouts reach their conclusion...
This weekend saw the playing of the knockout finals for West Cornwall Golf Club. As some players had made more than 1 final a couple of matches were played on Saturday. The first of these was the Maureen Richards Mixed Foursomes which saw Felicity Chiddicks and Jack Kevern taking on husband and wife duo, Jo & Mark Body. In a good match it is was Chiddicks and Kevern who would come out on top, 4&3. |
The second match on Saturday was the St Uny Trophy, a ladies singles knockout with Alison Gessey taking on Chris Matthews. Again, it was a competitive match but it was Alison who finally won through, 3&2. |
Sunday saw the remaining 8 finals being played. The main club singles knockout, the Halsted Bowl, was contested between Graeme Webster and - playing in his second final of the weekend - junior Jack Kevern. It was nip and tuck in the early stages but around the turn Graeme took the advantage winning 9, 10 and 11 to go 3 up. However, Jack is never one to give up and fought back, winning 12, 14 and 15 to make it all square. Jack then also won 16 to go 1 up and with both players making pars on the last 2 holes it was Jack who took the honours, 1 up. |
The Foursomes Cup saw Mark Eccles & Dave Bowden take on Mike Masters & Bob Caddick and it was the former pair who controlled the match and ran out winners 5&4. The men’s singles competition, The Hain Challenge Cup between Ben Easterling and Jamie Cameron was also nip-and-tuck early on, but Ben took the advantage around the ‘triangle’ (holes 5,6 & 7) and never gave anything back, eventually winning 5&4. |
The seniors final between Dave Perry and Tim Martin also was expected to be a close affair but Dave played a great approach shot into 11 to win that hole and continued to play solid golf from there on, running out the winner 5&3. |
Alison Gessey, in her second final was playing Rachel Perkin in the Holman Cup. This match was always going to be tight and this proved to be the case with Alsion winning here second trophy 2 up. |
The men’s better ball, Banfield Stevens Tankards was contested between Phil Phaby & Larry Magor playing against Jon Musitano and David Williamson. Again, the format normally provides for tight matches and there was not much in it all of the way around with Jon & David holding a 1 up lead going down the last before Jon then chipped in for birdie to secure the win, 2up. |
The last game teeing off was the junior WHC Thomas Matchplay between Sam Foster and Charlotte Jenkin. It was Charlotte who got ahead and was looking comfortable until Sam started to make a comeback, but unfortunately for Sam he wasn’t quite able to keep it going and Charlotte managed victory 3&1. |

Goodbye laces. Hello Boa Technology in today's golf equipment continues to amaze us year-on-year, but it's not just our clubs that are making strides in the tech department. Believe it or not, golf shoes are some of the most advanced products in the market thanks to the evolution of the Boa Fit System, which is replacing traditional laces. Not only does it fasten your shoe, but when the Boa dial is on the heel of your shoe, it pulls your foot back and down to provide the perfect fit for extreme comfort and stability out on the course.
