Ladies Competition Results
The Ladies of West Cornwall Golf Club played a Santa Special Greensomes in wonderful mild weather just before Christmas. There was a large field for this fun event and the winners for the day were sisters Chris Matthews and Gill Cattran who scored 34 points. In second place were Rachel Perkin and Jo Body on 33 points followed, on a count back, by Liz Jenkin and Antoinette Richards.
After the event, refreshments were served in the Ladies Pavilion, followed by a Christmas gift exchange - so everyone went home with a prize!
Tigers & Rabbits
In wonderful weather on Tuesday, 6 January the West Cornwall Ladies played a Tigers and Rabbits event where a low handicap player is partnered with a high handicap partner in a 15 hole stableford competition.
The winning team was Antoinette Richards and Marge Parnell with a grand score of 33points, followed by Debbie Sedgeman and Mandy Stevens on 31 points. In third place, on a count back, were Rachel Perkin and Viv Rowe on 30 points.
Will 2015 be the year you finally break through and start playing the kind of golf you know you are capable of? Did Santa bring you that new driver? How about some lessons? If so it's probably all good, bet you will knocking them straight down the middle come spring time.
However, come mid January and like most golfers you probably struggle to get out of bed. Your back feels as if it is nailed to the frame, you have zero feeling in your legs, except for the searing muscle ache that moves up and down your lower extremities like an elevator of pain. As for swinging a golf club? How about lifting one?
Reality sets in and you become all too aware that you probably over did it and still feel the effects of an over indulgent Christmas and New Year! However don't give up yet, it's the start of a new year and there's plenty to do to get your game in shape for the season ahead:
1) Get your clubs fitted to your requirements. Make sure the shaft, loft and face angle are right for your game. If not, you will make compensations with your swing and that is something you do not want to do.
2) Make sure you play a golf ball that is suited to your club head speed. Talk to me or Jason for advice on which ball best suits you, remember it's all about compression and feel.
3) Make an appointment to check whether your putter is fitted correctly for you. The right loft and lie angles are absolutely critical. Make certain that your putter is working for you, not against you. Remember, you shouldn't have to adjust to the club, the club needs to adjust to you.
4) Invest in some lessons. It's surprising how many golfers keep struggling on with their games no better than when they first started, yet at West Cornwall Golf Club you have the wonderful opportunity to utilise the skills and experience of two of the best professionals in the South West. Whether we use Trackman or SkyPro or Video, the immediate feedback makes learning fun and light years quicker.
Better, more enjoyable golf is comprised of many elements, find a balance, practice patience and remember you generally get out what you put into your game (and life). Don't forget, we are all extremely lucky to have golf in our lives, play with a sense of gratitude, your talent will blossom and just maybe 2015 will be the year you finally start playing the kind of golf you deserve?
I look forward to helping you all achieve your goals this year and would welcome the chance to discuss how best we can develop your golf skills. So whether it's a lesson or two or maybe a custom fitting session please do contact me on 01736 753177 or 07516 637816, or click here to get in touch.
I hope you enjoyed reading my first offering of 2015.
