Who are our Club Champions...
Luckily the fog we have experienced earlier in the week stayed away for the Men’s and Ladies Club Championships held on Saturday. The scoring was excellent and the morning round saw no less than 14 players shoot better than handicap. 3 players managed nett 65s; Jack Kevern, Warwick Holland & Rod Handyside. They were closely followed on 66 by another 3 players, Ryan Weeks, Noah Badcock and Alan Adams. Meanwhile, Matt Richards lead the way in the scratch competition with 67, with Jack Kevern 2 back on 69 and Warwick Holland and Rod Handyside both shooting 70. The afternoon didn’t let up with both Michael Roberts-Burt and Tony Semmens shooting excellent rounds of 63. Daryl Burford managed 65 and Andre Otto shot 66. However, it was Ryan Weeks who followed up his morning round of 66 with an afternoon round of 64 to take the prize with a total of 130, 8 under handicap. In the scratch competition, there was no catching Matt Richards and he followed up his 67 with an excellent afternoon 66 to post 5 under par, 1 better than handicap! In the ladies event, Mandy Dennison lead the net competition with an excellent 69, 3 ahead of Jo Body who managed 72, with Rachel Perkin a further 2 back on 74. Jo had the consolation of leading the scratch competition with 78, this time 2 ahead of Judy Ryder who scored 80. Mandy kept her form in the afternoon shooting net 70 to win the overall net handicap cup. Jo maintained her form as well with an afternoon 80 and with Judy only managing 80 again won the scratch event by 2 shots. Jack Kevern won the junior Club Championship and the Gerry Parker trophy with an excellent gross score of 69, 72, 141. There was unfortunately no official presentation, but Captain Andy Postans was on hand to allow the winners to pick up their trophies and informally announce the results of the competition to those who remained outside in the sunshine! |
