Junior Golfer/ Non Golfer Day
Over 25 non-golfer players came and enjoyed the hospitality of the Junior Section in the Junior golfer/Non golfer day held last Sunday, 1 March. A great day was had by all despite some rain that thankfully didn't seem to dampen the spirits of any of the players. The format for the day was 5 holes Greensomes with the "non-golfer" allowed to tee the ball up anywhere on the course. Air shots also didn't count. After the golf, tea and cake was enjoyed in the clubhouse as well as an indoor putting competition.
The winners on the day were:
1st - Jack and Sarah Kevern
2nd - Daniel and David Richards
The indoor putting champion was Jack Kevern who defeated Wendy Inch in a play off after they tied with a score of 11.
All in all it was an excellent afternoon with lots of Non Golfers enjoying golf for the first time. A big thank you to Wendy Inch and the junior section together with the many helpers for hosting the day and making it all possible.
We are hoping that due to the success of the day that a similar day is held during the summer months when hopefully the weather will be a lot kinder.
Congratulations and well done to all that took part.
Hole in One
Congratulations to Clive Rowe who scored a magical "Hole in One" this morning on the 1st hole in this weeks Wednesday Stableford.
Well done Clive!
Despite the wind and rain throughout February, the Seniors at West Cornwall have managed to complete three events in their busy 2015 calendar with only the home friendly match against Mullion GC being lost to the weather.
On 5 February, 41 members played in a 4BBB Stableford competition. The winning pair achieving 40 points in testing conditions were Ryszard Zolkiewicz and John Weaver. In 2nd place with 39 points was new member David Winks with his time served partner Peter Gregory. The result hinged on a missed putt by Peter on the 18th green.
The 12 February just over £320 was raised for Cancer Research in the Section's Annual Charity Stableford. 38 members played with the wine for the first three places being won by David Guswell (39 points), David Shilson (38 points) and Robin Smith (34 points).
The month concluded last Thursday, 26 February, with a Match between the Cornish Senior members against those from the Rest of the World. The Cornish Seniors, led by club stalwart Chris Roach triumphed by 61/2 points to 31/2 points. Rest of the World captain Ryszard Zolkiewicz congratulated Cornwall on their win and thanked everyone present for taking part. Robin Smith won the wine for nearest the pin on the 15th hole.
