Ladies News

We had yet another wonderful spring day for the West Cornwall Ladies Monthly Stableford, on Tuesday, 17 March.

The winning scores in 1st division were Gill Embley on 33 points, followed by Gill Cattran on 31 points on a count back from Margaret Morris who came 3rd.

2nd division winners were Viv Nash in 1st place with 31 points, Christine Marenah in 2nd, on a count back from Mandy Stevens with 29 points who came 3rd.

Hop into Golf this Easter

Once again this Easter, Matt Tucknott will be running his ever popular children's "Get into Golf" sessions which are open to all juniors whether you are a member of West Cornwall Golf Club or just wanting to see if golf is something you might want to get involved with this year. There are two different groups (beginners/Improvers) with sessions over three days, juniors can attend all three days or just enjoy one day if they prefer. Booking is essential as spaces are limited to 8 per group and payment is required at time of booking.

All equipment can be provided if needed and with lots of Easter prizes to be won, there's no better time to learn and improve your golf skills, so book today.

National Golf Month

The UK's National Golf Month will be once again held across the country in May offering a wide range of great value for money opportunities to attract beginners and returners to the sport. They include: Open days, Taster sessions, Beginner courses, Improver courses, Playing and membership offers. The campaign is being driven nationally by the Bauer Media Group and the British Golf Industry Association (BGIA) and is supported by England Golf.

More locally Matt Tucknott PGA is hoping to go one better and have a whole year of promoting "Get Into Golf" projects and has set an ambitious target of introducing over 100 new players to experience and start playing golf at West Cornwall Golf Club during 2015. The knock on effect of this could be very dramatic and would go some way in reversing the trend of declining numbers participating in golf which the UK and WCGC are still experiencing.

If you would like to help buck the trend and get more people playing golf in 2015, please think about anyone you know who might like to get involved with one of the "Get into Golf" sessions. If every member of our golf club asked just one of their friends, families or work colleagues whether they wanted to try golf this year, I'm sure the 100 new golfers target is achievable.
