Open Day - Sunday, 24 May 2015
Even the misty weather could not dampen the spirits of everyone who attended the Club's Open day held last Sunday.
Matt Tucknott manned an inflatable practice net outside the clubhouse, giving tips and instruction, whilst I was out on the practice ground where I had set up a pitching skills challenge with the aid of TrackMan technology.
Simon Wood, Cornwall's Golf Development officer helped out by running a putting competition.
These open days are incredibly important to promote the club in these economic times especially considering the recent decline in participation in recent years.
The day was very successful with many new members joining across varying categories and continued interest since Sunday has led to several more applications for membership.
The Catering staff produced an excellent variety of delicious food and refreshments which were enjoyed by all participants.
A big thank you must go to all involved including Gary Wignall who had a massive contribution with regard to the marketing, Simon Wood, and all the members who brought potential new members along on the day.
Oh what a day it was on Tuesday, 19 May for the Ladies of West Cornwall Golf Club playing the Jubilee Salvers competition. The weather forecast was dreadful, promising rain, wind, and thunder. For the 15 brave souls who played, it turned out to be only gale force winds!
The winner in Division 1, and winner of the Jubilee Salvers Trophy, was Lynne Bishop on a nett 81, on a count back from Judy Ryder.
In Division 2 Christine Marenah won on a nett 83, again, on a countback from Jane Attwood and Lady Captain, Edwina Thomas.
The 9 hole competition was won by Jackie Hill on 12 points.
The other event on the day was the putting competition which was won by Lynne Bishop with 29 putts in Division 1, and Edwina Thomas in Division 2 with 34 putts.
The Shallard Cup
A Magical day at last on Tuesday, 26 May with lots of sun and no wind or rain for the Ladies of West Cornwall Golf Club who turned out in force to play the Shallard Cup.
The winner was Lady Captain, Edwina Thomas, with 38 points followed by junior member Emily Jenkin on 37 points. In 3rd place, on 35 points, was Debbie Sedgeman on a count back from Gill Prodger.
The final of the Vice Presidents knockout competition was played between Mandy Stevens and Alison Gessey the Victor being Mandy who won and now goes on to compete against ladies from other clubs.
Mandy Stevens and Donna Gibson won the Peugeot LGU Coronation Foursomes competition played on Friday, 22 May. This is a national competition with the best 100 scores from all clubs proceeding to area finals: Mandy and Donna now wait to see if they have qualified to play in that. Best of Luck.
