Thankfully we had some great weather on Sunday for our new Captain, Antony Richard's Drive in. Tradition is that the incoming Captain partners his Vice Captain (Ian Hanley), and plays alongside his Past Captain (Neil Fletcher) and the clubs President (Ken Evans) in the Captains drive in which is played in a Better Ball Stableford format.
Prior to teeing off, the long standing tradition is that the new Captain drives off a succession of balls in which someone, and we wont name any names, often mixes in a few jokes, for example exploding type golf balls. I was very impressed by the quality of some of Antony's shots during his drive in, but as an alcoholic drink precedes each shot, and with the amount of alcohol consumed by him before playing, I can understand why his golf may have suffered during his round. I would like to wish Antony all the best for his year as our club Captain, especially as it's our clubs 125th Anniversary, so it really promises to be a memorable one, with some very special events planned. Lets hope the sun shines on all of us and we can all celebrate together and enjoy a great year of golf.
