West Cornwall Golf Club Club Championship
The West Cornwall Golf Club Championships were held on Saturday, 27 June with Philip Rowe returning from Vegas to take part and play with his future student at Las Vegas University, Harry Hall.
For the first time in recent history, the championship was played on a Saturday and also included an 18-hole support competition. This included the morning round of those playing 36-holes.
The early leader was 1-handicap player Alex Glasson who had a nett 70. The course was playing hard and fast to make scoring difficult and defending champion, Rob Tempest, playing off 3 managed a nett 71 as did Richard Bunch off 5. However, the scoring did not improve and although no-one could surpass Glasson's score of 70, three others, Dan Woodcock, Joel Palk & Jordan Musitano all managed to equal it. Glasson did however hold the lead in the scratch competition, 1 ahead of Harry Hall and 2 ahead of Jon Coleman.
Those playing in the support competition didn't find the going any easier with Andrew Kevern shooting a nett 71 but it was Reggie Kemp who lead with a nett 70, before, in the very last group, he was beaten on count back by Adam Barber.
In the afternoon, scoring remained tough although Ian Hodge became the first player to shoot level handicap with a nett 69 and the Captain, Ian Hanley, became the first to shoot under par with a nett 68.
With Glasson, Tempest, Bunch & Musitano not scoring as well in the afternoon, it was left to Woodcock, who matched the Captain's 68 to total a level par 36-hole score of 138 and win the Championship.
In the gross category it was no surprise that Harry Hall improved on his morning 72 with a gross 70 to record a winning total of 142, 6 ahead of Glasson who recorded a 77 to go with his morning 71 for a 148 total.
