Learmonth Bowl 2015
Sunday saw the Learmonth Bowl at West Cornwall Golf Club. The 36-hole medal event is a tough format but early conditions were good and scores were expected to be reasonable.
However the wind soon picked up and with the course playing firm and fast, scoring proved to be harder than expected. Home player, Christian Bowden however shot a nett 65, which remained the only score under par until Tony Watling, in the last few groups managed a 68. Ben Andrew managed to play to his handicap carding 69 and then previous winner, Mike Kent from Radnor was the best of four on 72.
In the gross competition Alex Glasson lead on 74, Neil Holland of Sidmouth was second on 75 with Seamus Stevens third on 76, one ahead of Richard Bunch.
With the wind getting stronger in the afternoon, Bowden was unable to keep it together and carded a 'no return'. It was Richard Bunch who then took the lead with an afternoon 74 to total 146. In the gross, Glasson also had a 'no return' and with Stevens managing 80 for 156 it was Sidmouth's Holland who took the scratch competition with an afternoon 76 to total 151.
Watling was also unable to keep his score going, managing a nett 81. Meanwhile Andrew carded 78 to finish on 147, this was then beaten on count back by Joel Cameron who managed an afternoon 71 but it was Richard Bunch who followed up his morning 72 with a 74 to win on 146.
