Wednesday - Better Ball event

With three days of competition, West Cornwall Golf Club opened the events with a better ball event on Wednesday. With 49 pairs taking part, it was the home pairing of Graham Smith & Kieron Day who showed the way with an excellent 45 points. 

From 2nd place to 6th was a lot closer with Mark & Ross Hutchings managing 42 points for second place beating Alastair Paterson & Nigel Lawson-Lee on count back. In fourth place were Paul Spencer (Whitsand Bay) & Keith Smallman (Launceston) with 41 points beating Jordan Musitano with Beric Tempest and Mark Chamberlain & Ian Cowls who finished 5th and 6th respectively also with 41 points. Mandy Stevens and Christine Marenah were the unlucky pairing also scoring 41 points but missing out on a prize by count back.


Friday - 4 man event

Friday saw a 4-person team event with 1 score counting on the first 6 holes, 2 scores on the middle 6 holes and 3 scores to count on the last 6 holes. 

Visitors, Sid and Jane Pascoe (Looe) with Peter and Brenda Pascoe (Yelverton/St Mellion) had an excellent 83 points but Club Captain, Ian Hanley, led his team of John White, Neil Hodding and Alexandre Daninos to 84 points. 

However, the nerves were jangling when the last group out from Bowood and Bude, Josh Greenaway, Tom Haley, Howard Smith and Adam Curtis came in with 83 to just miss out on the win.


Saturday's Scramble

Saturday was the ever popular scramble with 152 players taking to the links. As ever there was some excellent scoring and with Andrew Hitchens, Andy Boon, Mark Prisk and Dean Goddard scoring 51.7 and looking like winning until late starters, Mark & Ross Hutchings and Neil & Andrew Hodding managed a 51.2. Scores of 52.3 from Gary Cox, Phil Phaby, Seamus Stevens and Nigel Lawson-Lee and 52.7 from Chris & Katie Sandow with John Harvey & David Jones filled the other prize placings.

Autumn well and truely arrived at West Cornwall Golf Club this week as the ladies played in the D & M Johns Trophy and the Vets Cup. The winners are as follows: 

Division 1 - 1st - A. Sweet - 29pts on c/b, 2nd - A. Gessey - 29pts and 3rd - D. Sedgeman - 28pts. 

Division 2 - 1st - V. Paul - 30pts, 2nd - C. Marenah - 28pts on c/b, 3rd - V. Rowe - 28pts. 

C. Marenah won the Vets cup with 28pts and V. Paul won the D. & M. Johns trophy with 30pts.
