Whilst as PGA Professionals we always promote the fact that custom fitting for clubs is vital to the future success of your game, what often gets overlooked is the importance of finding the right golf ball for you. Let’s take a look at why this is the case…
Distance optimising – some golf balls compress differently than others on impact with the club. Players with a lower swing speed a softer compression ball might launch more effectively.
Controlling spin – no two golf ball models spin in the same way. The correct spin profile makes sure that the ball you are using is most optimal for the amount of spin you generate with your club.
Launch trajectory – different model of golf balls have different dimple patterns and cover materials. What this means is that some may launch lower or higher than others. If you’re looking for a different flight than you currently achieve, the answer could be hiding in the golf ball you are using.
If you’re someone who has been custom fitted for clubs, the absolute worst thing you can do for your game is to simply guess on what ball you are using or even worse – playing with ‘any golf ball I find around the course’. It could be detrimental to your game.
